Taking Sleep Supplements

When you can’t fall asleep at night, you’ll probably get really frustrated, especially if the problem continues for more than a few nights in a row. Many times, people will automatically turn to sleep supplements like nighttime pain killers, but these can have negative effects on the body, including the inability to wake up the next morning and some health problems that can build up if you use the supplements regularly over time. Here are a few solutions that might help you fall asleep more naturally.

One of the main things you should consider doing is putting a white noise machine in your room. Often times, when you’re trying to fall asleep, noises are keeping you awake without your even realizing it. Maybe the kids are stirring in the next room, your partner is snoring lightly, or you can hear cars on the road outside. All these things can keep you awake, but a white noise machine can drown them out so that you can get some sleep.

Another option is to start a bedtime routine that will help your body relax. Often times, adults have trouble falling asleep simply because their brains are still on daytime overdrive. If you find yourself constantly thinking about the news or tomorrow’s to-do list, make an effort to put everything that isn’t relaxing from your mind before you try to fall asleep.

Finally, if neither of these options works by itself, try taking a natural sleep supplement, such as melatonin, which mimics your body’s own sleep hormones. Take the supplement an hour or so before you’re ready to go to bed, start winding down about then, and turn on your white noise machine when you lie down for the night. The combination of these efforts may be what finally does it for you.

Three Solutions for Better Sleep

SleepingWoman[2] For many adults today, getting enough sleep is a major problem. Many people try to run their lives on five or six hours of sleep each night, which is simply not enough. Other people, though, block out enough time for sleep but actually don’t get good sleep when they’re in bed. If you fall into this second category, here are some things you can do to get better sleep.

First, buy a new mattress if you need to. This is a big investment, but it will totally be worth it. Sometimes, an old spring mattress can keep you tossing and turning so that you never sleep well because it will put pressure spots on your body. Check out several mattresses before you buy one, and try to get one that is very comfortable for both you and your partner.

Next, invest in a sleep sound machine. This might sound off the wall, but one of the many reasons some people can’t sleep is because our world is just too loud. A white noise machine can use naturally soothing noises or simply fan-like noises that blend sounds from all frequencies into sounds that will drown out background noises in your room. You’ll never be awakened by minor noises again with a sleep noise machine.

Finally, make sure your room is as dark as possible. Another problem with the modern world is that with all our electric lighting, it’s next to impossible to find a place that is truly dark. However, your body produces sleep-inducing hormones when it’s in the dark, so it’s important that your bedroom be as dark as possible. Whether it means turning off the nightlight in the hall or investing in thick curtains with a light-blocking backing, having your room super dark will help you sleep more soundly each night.

So You Think You Have Insomnia?

insomnia[1] Insomnia is actually a pretty common condition in adult sleepers, but it can take lots of different forms. In fact, it can actually be a symptom of another sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea or even restless legs syndrome. The primary symptom of insomnia is the inability to fall asleep and stay asleep when you need to, even if you’re actually really tired. If you’ve been having this symptom, it’s not quite time to see a doctor yet. First, start using some good sleep hygiene to see if it solves the problem, and if it doesn’t, then you can see a doctor.

One of the first things that you need is to be on a schedule. Set a bedtime and a waking up time, and stick to it, even on the weekends. Don’t try to go to sleep right after watching the news or messing around on the Internet, either, since so much visual stimulation can keep your brain hopping for a while. Instead, give yourself time to unwind with something like a warm bath, a soothing CD, or whatever else makes you unwind in the evenings.

Also, before you get into bed, turn on a sleep sound machine. Sometimes, people get woken up by subtle noises without even realizing it. Instead of dealing with these nighttime noises, use a white noise machine that will drown out any background noises from your home or neighborhood. Many people who think they have insomnia simply get woken up at inopportune times and are unable to go to sleep, either because their brains immediately turn on or because the noise wakes them up after several hours of sleep. Sound machines are easy to find, and they can seriously help alleviate what could be the symptoms of insomnia in many adults.

Dealing with Sleepiness

Becoming sleepy during the day at inopportune times is pretty common. sleepy[1] Sometimes, adults experience this problem because they simply aren’t scheduling enough time for sleep, and other times, they are actually waking up frequently at night, sometimes without even realizing it. What, then, is a person to do about the problem of getting sleepy during the day? Here are a few potential solutions.

The first thing to do is to make sure that you’re at least scheduling enough time for sleep. You should plan on getting between seven and nine hours of sleep at night. Get any less than seven, and you’re simply going to feel sleepy.

Another option is to purchase a sound machine for your bedroom. Sleep is a very complex state for the brain, and sometimes you can be drawn out of the deepest sleep by noises without even knowing it. The sound waves that are released by a sleep noise machine will mask noises that are present in your home or bedroom, helping you to stay in deeper sleep for longer.

You can also help this problem by taking very short naps during the day. It is, in fact, rather natural for people to lag a little bit in the afternoon. You can sometimes feel much better if you take just a fifteen to twenty minute nap, which doesn’t even have to involve going into deep sleep to be quite effective at helping you feel better for the rest of the day. A noise machine might also be helpful in this situation, since your home or office is likely to be loud in the middle of the day.

All of these solutions can be helpful, but if you can’t beat daytime sleepiness with more sleep, a white noise machine, and naps during the day, you might want to see your doctor to discuss whether you might have one of a number of different sleep disorders.

Sleeping with a Snoring Partner

snoring[1] Sometimes, the issues that occur in a relationship or marriage are things that are pretty much uncontrollable. She cries whenever he’s mad, which just makes him feel bad. He hates Chinese, which she loves. Or maybe one of them snores so loudly at night that the other is often woken up. The problem with a snoring partner is that normally it’s the partner who doesn’t snore who loses sleep over the noise, which can become incredibly frustrating. A person who is frustrated and lacking sleep is not fun to deal with.

So, what do you do about sleeping with someone who snores? Well, there are a few solutions. One of the best is to get a white noise machine for your bedroom. This type of machine will fill the room with white noise. Often, it won’t totally cover the worst of the snoring, but it will mask the way that your brain hears the sound, which means that you’re less likely to be awakened by it. White noise machines are commonly used for babies, but they can be incredibly helpful for couples who are struggling with the problem of snoring.

Another good solution might be to go to bed at different times. If the non-snoring partner is a heavy sleeper, then snoring might not be a problem after she’s already asleep. Trying to fall asleep by someone who is sawing logs, though, can be a frustrating and futile endeavor. So, the partner who doesn’t snore should hit the sack half an hour or more before the snorer so that she can fall asleep first and stay asleep through the noise.

These two techniques, the white noise machine and the different bedtimes, can help many couples deal with the problem of snoring. Of course, if the problem is severe or continues for a long time, it might be a good idea to check out the snoring partner for conditions like sleep apnea.

Self-Adjusting Sound Machines

Whether you’re three months old or thirty years old, getting and staying AST-ECO-DUET-1[2] asleep at night can be tough. If you live in the city, you might get woken up by things like siren noises, loud neighbors, and backfiring cars. Even if you live in the middle of nowhere, you still have to content with tractor noises during planting and harvest and animal noises in the middle of the night. Instead of suffering from noises like these, though, you can use a sound machine to mask the night’s annoying noises so that you can fall asleep and stay asleep.

Using some sort of sound machine to create white noise or even just turning on a box fan in the bedroom at night is an old way to drown out disruptive background noises and stay asleep. While these approaches can be somewhat effective, you can still hear particularly loud noises above the white noise. Your fan or quiet radio can drown out soft noises and far-away noises, but the sound of your neighbor’s dog barking at three in the morning will jump out beyond that noise, waking you up or at least making your sleep less deep and restful.

Luckily, new technology has created a great new sound machine that can automatically adjust to your surroundings. The Ecotones Duet by Adaptive Sound Technologies provides this new technology. This type of machine will play whatever type of white noise you find most soothing, whether it’s natural night noises, running water, or just a fan-like noise. Instead of just feeding you noise, though, this sound machine will read the noises coming in from the surrounding area. If the noise around you grows louder, the machine will increase in volume to mask the new noises.

Even though a white noise machine can become pretty loud to drown out unexpected background noises, it still won’t wake you up because it will be that same sound you’ve grown used to. If you’re having trouble staying asleep even with your traditional white noise maker, one of these machines might be your perfect solution.

Drowning Out the Night

pillowhead[1] In today’s fast-paced world, it can be hard enough to sleep without having to worry about background noises that keep you awake. The backfiring car down the road can wake you up with a start, and the cat’s yowling at each other outside can keep you from falling asleep in the first place. You could sleep with earplugs, which can be annoying since you will either lose them halfway through the night or won’t be able to hear your alarm clock in the morning, or you could check you some sound machines to give you relief from the nighttime sounds that are keeping you awake.

Sound machines come in many different varieties, shapes, and sizes, but they all use soft background noises to drown out the more disturbing noises of the night. These types of machines usually use several different sound frequencies, which allows them to drown out different types of noises.

When you’re choosing a sound machine, you should think about your personal preferences in white noise. If you don’t want to be distracted at all, you might want to choose a machine that masks sounds with a radio-static-like noise, which won’t be distracting since it doesn’t bring any particular pictures to mind. If you want to calm yourself down with visions of a soothing environment, try sound machines that use waterfall noises or ocean wave noises to both soothe your mind and drown out background noises throughout the night.

If you just have trouble falling asleep, you might want to look at sound machines with automatic shut off functions. They’ll run for a couple of hours until you’re deeply asleep, and then they’ll turn themselves off so as not to waste electricity. If you’re a very light sleeper who is constantly waking up to small noises, though, you might want to check out the sound machines that run all night so that the noises that wake you are drowned out even after you’re asleep.

Baby Sound Machines for Big Kids

If you’re a parent, you probably know the value of baby sound machinesSM-980-1[1] that fill your infant’s room with white noise when he’s trying to sleep. These machines are soothing to the nerves, and because they drown out background noises, they can help a baby fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. You can buy many different machines, from super-small one-speaker affairs to larger machines that give you several different white noise options for your child. Did you know, though, that you can actually use baby sound machines for your older children or for yourself?

It’s not only babies that have trouble sleeping when random noises keep interrupting their sleep cycles. Older children can have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, and so can adults. While it’s common to use box fans in a child’s room or in your own bedroom, baby sleep machines might actually be a better idea for both older children and adults for a few reasons.

For one thing, the technology behind these sleep machines makes them more soothing. The research that these machines are founded on ensures that they actually give out noises that are soothing to almost everyone. This means that the sounds are inherently soothing and are good for more than just masking background noises like a fan will do.

Plus, baby sound machines are more compact than fans, which means they’re easier to move around. If you go to a hotel or a relative’s home to stay for a while, you can more easily pack a small sound machine than a large box fan, which means you and your children will sleep as well away from home as you do at home. Besides this, though, sound machines are going to be easier to clean than box fans. Instead of disassembling them to get all the dust off the blades, you just have to wipe them down with a dry cloth every so often.

White Noise Machines and Tinnitus

ear[1]Tinnitus is a condition in the ears that many, many people  experience at some point in their lives. Basically, it can manifest as a ringing or humming in the ears that you just can’t get rid of, and it can be really distracting, especially when you’re trying to fall asleep. White noise machines, which are often used to help babies and insomniacs get to sleep and stay asleep, can mask the sound of your tinnitus, which will help you fall asleep.

White noise machines come in many different varieties. Some will put out sounds like soft radio static that use lots of different frequencies at once to mask all kinds of sounds, and others will use soothing natural noises, often the sound of water falling or the ocean waves. The type of white noise you need can actually be determined in part by a tinnitus specialist, who can test the noises in your ears and help you figure out which type of sound will mask them best.

Using white noise machines to distract yourself from the random noise in your head when you’re trying to sleep is a great way to help you fall asleep. You can also use white noise machines when you’re trying to concentrate. Sometimes the noise from the machine that masks your tinnitus is just as distracting as the tinnitus itself, but many people find that this mechanical noise is less distrac ting and actually helps them function better.

Over time, the use of white noise machines can actually help put your tinnitus into a sort of remission. Some types of this disorder are curable by various means, and some are not. Scientists have actually found that tinnitus might abate in people who use white noise machines on a regular basis for a while. Sometimes the tinnitus comes back, but you can always use the machine again for a while if it does.

Sound machines are designed to provide help for tinnitus sufferers.

White Noise Machines - Is There Any Risk?

Sleepless nights – we've all had them before. What causes sleepless nights? It could be a variety of factors. Sometimes a lack of good quality sleep can be stress related. Sometimes it can be due to excessive activity right before bed. However, often times we are distracted because of noise. Whether it's a dog barking, cats fighting or even neighbors having a tiff, these noises are very intrusive.

Babies in particular have a difficult time falling asleep. If a baby is restless or becomes scared he or she will cry until a parent comes to provide comfort. However, if a baby is relaxed throughout the night, he or she will not feel the need to cry for help. This is where a white noise machine can help.

A white noise sound machine is a doctor - created and doctor - recommended alternative to drugs and other therapies. Instead of forcing the body to become sleepy, the system uses natural and relaxing sounds to bring about a peaceful state of mind and then a deep sleep.

These new generation sound machines go a step beyond simply paying relaxing sounds on CD. This high-tech baby sleep machine offers more than just looped recordings. It actually mixes complementary sounds into the soundtrack in response to external noises. These are interactive machines that actually adjust their volume and their choice of sound based on the external sounds around the room. Therefore, a baby who would ordinarily be distracted by a dog barking could rest deeply with the help of a system like the Ecotones Duet Sound Machine. The dear child would never even hear the noise, since the system would tune it out. The Ecotones Duet is able to automatically modulate its volume to mask the distracting sound.  The Ecotones Duet is perfect for babies, children and adults!

These sound conditioners are affordably priced and a safe alternative to drugs, hypnosis, holistic herbs and any other therapy out there you might imagine. There’s no better way to fall asleep than listening to beautiful sounds of nature!
