Using Sound Conditioners For Children With Autism

Not that many years ago, few people had heard of Autism. In fact, the number of children being diagnosed was extremely low. Unfortunately, numbers today have skyrocketed with 1 in every 150 children born now being given a firm diagnosis of Autism. Doctors have discovered that using sound conditioners is one way of making a connection for distant children but also calming those that get irritated.
The underlying cause of autism has become a huge debate with many experts believing there is a link to vaccines. Autism presents in different ways and intensities. However, the general form of Autism includes impairment of social interaction, communication problems, and repetitive interests and/or behaviors. For some children, sleeping and relaxing are difficult, which is why using sound conditioners is so beneficial. These machines produce sound that helps to calm the mind and white noise absorbs outside noise that usually escalates the level of irritation in a child with autism.
Until the time comes when doctors, scientists, and researchers have a full understanding of what causes Autism and how to fix it, parents are left with treating the symptoms. Often, a child with Autism will have one toy that he or she prefers and even when offered something new or better, the child would choose the one he wants. In the case of sound conditioners, a parent could benefit the child in two ways. For instance, a number of stuffed animals are now sold that have sound conditioners inside. This way, the Autistic child could bond with the stuffed animal while also enjoying the sounds of nature, lullabies, stories, or other sounds produced by the conditioner. The result is a more relaxed and happy child.
In some instances, a child with Autism will become overly agitated by noise. For instance, honking car horns, barking dogs, and emergency vehicle sirens cause problems. Some of these children are hypersensitive to noise so having a means of blocking noise out with sound conditioners and white noise certainly helps. The child would hear the softer noises of the conditioner that soothe and the white noise that blocks distractions. For the greatest benefit, parents should consider choosing only authentic sounds in that they produce a more effective result.
Instead of feeling defeated, believing that there is nothing to do in helping an Autistic child, parents need to understand that many wonderful organizations offer a wealth of information and using something such as noise conditioners and white noise in the form of a stuffed animal will help improve the situation. |
