I bought this unit and I got it for nearly 50% off at Ebay! ($80). The unit is well designed and easy to control with a relatively small footprint. The pre-recorded sounds are outstanding. However, audiophiles are going to want to take advantage of the headphone jack to run a line to an audio receiver/amp so that you can hear the sounds through a nice sound system. I'm running mine through a 150Watt Sony amp and 4 Klipsch bookshelf speakers. My bedroom is bathed in sound and it's awesome. If you don't do that, you are stuck with a very ordinary, clock radio quality experience which will work but will leave you a little disappointed. If you are in to quality sound (and who isn't?) buy the unit but run it out to an amp and quality speakers. The onboard speakers and so-called "sub-woofer" built in to the unit are just okay sounding (being generous). I love my Sound Oasis S3000 but upgraded with $700 worth of stereo equipment!

Great Sound Machine - Disapointing Radio |

I would love to give this unit a 5-star rating for the sound conditioning - lots of options, great, realistic sounds. However, in order to reduce clutter, I bought this relatively expensive machine to replace my smaller, Boston Acoustics table radio. I thought that with the advertised stereo speakers and built-in subwoofer, the fidelity would be at least as good as my old table radio. That is where my disapointment lies. I wasn't expecting this small unit to rumble the bedroom, but it is hard to tell if there even is a subwoofer (maybe it's not working?), and the stereo speakers are on the "tinney" side. The tone controls do help, but I would expect better for $150.00. Its tuning capabiliy is not as good as my old radio either. I'm still using the unit, because I like the way it helps me sleep, but it is average, at best when it comes to listening to music.
