In 1962, Marpac invented the first electro-mechanical sound machine to block out unwanted, distracting noises. Today, Marpac offers a wide selection of sound machines and white noise machines Sound Machines such as the SleepMate, Sound Screen, and the line of Marsona sound conditioners. The introduction of digital sound technology and memory afforded Marpac the opportunity to produce better sound quality and more variation in sound selections than ever before. Prior to this, most of the environmental sounds in Marpac's electronic sound conditioners were synthesized and limited to just a few choices. The invention of digital media gave Marpac the freedom to include new and different sounds in sound conditioners. Continued developments in digital media spurred the introduction of the Marsona TSC-330, Marsona 1288, Lifesounds 440, Marsona DS-600, international sound machines, and more.
