All That Noise!

You may not realize just how much noise pollution is around you all the time and you may not realize what all this noise is doing to your overall health.

Our ears are designed to pick up every sound at all times which our brain will then translate to into something that we can understand such as our boss’s voice or the telephone ringing. All the other sounds are still there but are kind of in the background nevertheless they cause our ears and brain to work overtime whether we use the information or not.

The different sounds that your ears pick up on a daily basis in the work environment alone are machines like printers, fax machines, fans, copiers, air conditioners, heaters, computers, telephones, and radios. Along with all the machines your ears hear every conversation, people walking around, everyone typing, papers being moved, and so and so forth. Even the sounds outside the workplace will be received by your ears such as traffic sounds, like brakes, automobile accidents, police and fire sirens, and so on and so forth.

Low frequency noise such as that of machines has been proven to reduce efficiency in job performance. These low frequency sounds can also damage internal organs over the long haul if the amplitude is high enough. The loud roar of your heating or air conditioning unit can also cause individuals to become ill.

People talking is normally a higher frequency than that of machinery, however, when one person is talking there is always another one trying to heard so their voice is louder. This causes a chain reaction of everyone taking louder and louder.

Of course, you cannot hide away in a bubble to stay away from all the sounds in your environment; however, there is some things you can do to help reduce noise pollution in your work environment and at home.

Some of the way you can help rid the office of noise pollution and give you a more relaxed place in which to work include items that absorb noise such as carpet, area rugs, and banners. Cubicle walls do block some noise but not enough to create a calm and peaceful environment. The very last thing on the list is becoming one of the most popular ways in which to eliminate noise pollution at home and at work. The answer is white noise machines.

A white noise machine will absorb or eliminate all the sounds that might annoy you even if you do not realize it. White noise is random sounds that have rhythmic signals at all frequencies. Example of white noise could be the sound of a waterfall, the hum of a fan, or some consider it to sound like ocean waves or running water.

Using white noise machines in an office setting where several people are working together will give them a more relaxing and soothing environment in which to work while blocking out others while they perform their daily tasks.

Investing in a white noise machine for work or home is an investment in your overall health and future. Give yourself peace of mind and a relaxing environment for you and your family or your employees.
